FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Quick answers to the most common questions about Studio Guru.

How does the Gear Locker work?
The Gear Locker allows you to store any equipment (for example, mics, effects units etc.) that is not permanently housed in a studio and assign them to studios or sessions as needed. The Gear Locker will show you where they are currently assigned, or if they are available for assignment.
How do I assign gear?
Select the arrow to the right of any piece of equipment in the Gear Locker and it will ask you which studio to assign it to. It will then open the canvas for that studio to allow you to click wherever you would like the device to appear. The gear's icon will then appear and allow you to drag the connections as needed to other devices on the canvas.
How do I return equipment to the Gear Locker?
Click on any device you would like to move into the Gear Locker, and from the menu options select "Move". This allows you to move the gear into another studio or back to the Gear Locker. That piece of equipment will then be marked as available in the Gear Locker.
Which devices does Studio Guru run on?
Studio Guru is a native app for iPad (iPadOS 17 or later) and Mac (macOS 15 or later). One purchase covers all your personal devices via your Apple ID.
How does iCloud sync work?
Studio Guru uses iCloud to keep your studio data in sync across all your iPads and Macs automatically. As long as you are signed into the same Apple ID and iCloud is enabled, changes on one device appear on all others — no manual transfers needed.
Can I store PDF manuals inside the app?
Yes. You can import a PDF manual for any device in your library. The built-in PDF reader supports full-text search and is available offline.
What connection types does the app support?
Studio Guru covers analog (XLR, TRS, TS, RCA), digital (AES/EBU, S/PDIF, ADAT, TDIF), network audio (Dante, AVB, AES67), USB, Thunderbolt, FireWire, MIDI (DIN, USB-MIDI, network MIDI), and word clock.
Can I manage multiple studios or rooms?
Yes. You can create unlimited studio configurations — Studio A, Studio B, a home setup, a live room — each with its own independent device library and signal flow. Switch between them with a single tap and move devices between studios as needed.
What is the Guru button?
The Guru button (lightbulb icon) appears on each device profile and provides intelligent starting settings — attack and release for compressors, EQ curves for common sources, gain staging recommendations, and plugin parameter suggestions.
Can I share my studio setup with another engineer?
Yes. Export any studio configuration as a .studioguru file and share it via AirDrop, email, or any file-sharing service. The recipient can import it directly into their own copy of Studio Guru.
Is there a subscription fee?
Studio Guru is a one-time purchase on the App Store. One purchase covers all your personal iPads and Macs — no recurring subscription required.
